Day 21 – 2 weeks and some change op

  • Since the surgery my leg has been stabilized with a combination of fiber glass splint wrapped tight to my leg and foot using bandage as indicated below. Not sure if i prefer this option to the full fiberglass cast option but as i did not have a choice in the matter I took it as it came. I imagine this option to be lighter than a full a cast. After the removal of the bandage and splint cast today the surgeon seems satisfied with the progress the wound is making in healing up and has advised i can move into the air cast / moon boot. This as a whole makes life much easier as i can take it off when i am resting and have full access to get to all the itchy bits for a scratch now and then. I am marginally relieved that the surgeon is satisfied as I've accidentally stepped onto my foot once or twice applying pressure resulting in searing pain in the Achilles area. I'm learning to be more careful. I managed to get a look at the incision while the wound was being cleaned and dressing replaced. Not sure what it looked like straight after surgery but 8 days later i don't think it looks too bad. As happy as i am to be out of the cast i am sad to have not received the go ahead to start some mild form of rehabilitation / physio. Next visit scheduled for 7 days time.
